The Microbiology Department has 45 members of staff who perform microbiological tests on a range of food products and food-related samples for clients seven days a week. Their activities include:
The Central Preparation Unit
The Central Preparation Unit is a friendly team and the central hub of the Microbiology Department. The team have responsibility for ordering consumables and media for the Microbiology Department. They maintain the departmental stores, prepare microbiological media for use, carry out quality checks on the media, and carry out the washing up and waste decontamination services, for all groups within the Microbiology Department.
To prepare and sterilise media and reagents, to process waste and glassware within the Microbiology Department, whilst working within the quality systems of the group. It should be noted that there will be physical lifting involved in the work – taking processed waste to outside bins and fetching deliveries for the Department from ‘Goods-In’.

This position reports to the CPU Supervisor and would include:

Indicative Salary Range: £17300 – 19550
